BACH IN JEANS

a modern look at timeless masterpieces

Bach In Jeans began in 2009 as a series of informal concert-lectures on the lives and music of great classical composers.

Classical music wasn't written to be stuffy. It wasn't that long ago that entire communities would gather in the town hall regularly for live music. The audience was the young, the old, the wealthy, the poor... lawyers, doctors, farmers, and fishermen. There were no cushy chairs. There were no printed programs. Sometimes there was a stage. Sometimes the children would sit on the floor inches from the performer, and most of the audience would be on benches, or standing.

There was no politeness. There was little separation between audience and performer.

Somewhere in history we started to change for the worse. Somewhere classical music became complicated. For the eilte, snobby, educationed, or just for other musicians.

It doesn't have to be that way.

I'm Chip Miller - pianist, teacher, composer, and data architect. Join me Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 at WMP Concert Hall for a concert the way I like them - stories, music, and beer.
